“Are you nervous?” I asked, as he fumbled with the buttons on my jeans.


He looked up at me through his lashes, eyes as blue as sea glass, earnest and enraptured. From overhead, there came the creak of footsteps on the pier. Laughter. Music. Gulls. But down here, it was damp and shady: our own private world of wooden struts, stones, and shushing sea. The beach stretched out to our left, deserted. The perk of a rainy day.


“No,” he lied, then swallowed hard. “Okay, maybe a bit.”


I carded a hand through his hair, already fond of him. “You’re allowed to be.”


“I’ve never done this before,” he admitted. “Outside, I mean.”


“You sure you want to?”


Absolutely.”


He went back to work on the buttons. This time, I helped, thanking my foresight for picking out the good panties this morning: lacy pink and cute as hell. His cheeks flushed a similar color. Half an hour ago, when I’d met him selling cotton candy to tourists, he’d looked bored out of his mind. And now, here he was, on his knees for me. Completely under my spell.
